Grass tree

After the morning's trek along Mt William we went to visit the old Heatherlie Freestone Quarries site. Apart from its interesting history it was also supposed to have quite a collection of wildflowers but the middle of November seems too late in the year as we saw only a little. This nice grass-tree was however in full bloom.

This is one of the remnants of an earlier industry. Its a boiler I think was used to power the crane, the arm of which lies in two pieces nearby.

There were three restored (or should I say, reconstructed) huts by the quarry site. These give an indication of how the workers may have lived 100 years ago.

This is the inside of one of the huts. We rested in the shade these huts provided, the cool stone walls also provided some insulation from the heat.
