There were quite a lot of birds and dragonflies around the shores of Lake Fyans.
Most of the time they were too quick and restless for me but this one remained still long enough.

The plants on the shores were also home to quite a few spiders and
it required some effort to avoid destroying their webs.
This photo was taken in the evening in fading light.
Using the flash however makes it seem much later at night.

Echidnas are widespread in the all sorts of countryside in this south-eastern part of Australia
so it was no surprise to come across this one.
We were driving down, back to Halls Gap, and it was walking along the edge of the road at the high side.
In typical echidna fashion, it dried to burrow into the ground as it had been disturbed.
The only problem with this was that the roadside was very rocky and it couldn't really get very far.
